Newark RUFC Golf Society Golf Society
President : Dicky
Marshall |
History:
Like the club’s Cricket Section, the Golf Society ‘sort of happened’, rather than being deliberately created, and has slowly developed over the past 20 years to become the somewhat sad retreat for those who are past all other energetic pursuits that it is today.
Membership :
Open to anyone who has even the most tenuous connection with Newark RFC, and even those who haven’t are welcome if they know someone who has. The current number of ‘active’ members is approximately 30 but the average age is such that each year tends to see a degree of ‘natural wastage’. There are no Lady members, nor are there any plans to recruit any, and talented Juniors are made to feel particularly unwelcome.
Handicaps:
Members play off their club handicaps, or are allotted one by Handicaps Secretary Bill Russell. Past winners are usually cut, as are those heard to boast of their prowess etc.
Competitions:
Members compete for a number of cups, tankards and other trophies including:
Forthcoming events:
Fri. 29 th. Dec. - The Christmas Invitation Day. Belton Park GC
Feb. 07. - The Martin Gibbs Away Day. Venue tbd.
Aug/Sept. 07. - Irish Tour 3. Ballina, Co Mayo.
