The AGM

As previously reported, the 98th AGM of our Club took place on Monday evening.
This is a more detailed summary of the proceedings which will hopefully be on interest to members.

A one minute silence was held for 5 of our colleagues and friends from the Club who had passed away since the previous AGM.

Amendments to the Club’s constitution were discussed, which primarily allow for the President and Chairman to hold office for more than 2 years.

Other amendments were also proposed. The amendments were accepted en bloc.

Under the revised constitution, the President was able to stand and was duly re-elected.

The Chairman, Andrew Fearn, stood down from the position. Richard Derry, a lifelong member of the Club, was elected as Chairman.

The Vice Chairman, David Duddles, stood down from the position, but remained a Director of the Club.

Andrew Fearn was elected to become Vice Chairman.

The Secretary, Nick Poulson, was re-elected.

Directors standing down were Richard Byrom and Graham McFarlane.
Newly appointed Directors were Peter Mitchell, Alex Jackson, Matthew Cove and Alan Staines.

These appointments will bring new blood to the Board table, improve the connection to the Senior Club and reduce the average age a little!

Treasurer, Richard Staniforth, presented the accounts.
The current fiscal year ending July 31st is forecast to be the second most successful in our history.

Robert Crowe was nominated and elected to become an Honorary Life Member, after over 50 years’ active contribution the Club.

Three deserving new Vice Presidents were appointed: Nik Codd, Matthew Clark and Chris Coen.

In his summary the President made special mention and thanked Andrew Fearn, Graham McFarlane, Richard Byrom and Matthew Clarke for their outstanding contributions to the Club.

Looking forward to the coming season, the President set 5 major objectives:

1. Improve playing performance in the Senior Club: specifically

a. 1st XV win promotion
b. 2nd XV- re-establish a reputation as a force in local rugby
c. 3rd & 4th XVs- play more matches

2. Mini & Youth Rugby- strive to retain our pre-eminence in NLD

3. Girls Rugby- build on our successes of last season and working hard to establish an U18 team

4. Sponsorship- continue and build on the excellent work that contributes so much to the strong financial performance of the Club.

5. New Clubhouse Project: specifically

a. Reach our fund raising target of £200,000
b. Build Phase 1, the new changing accommodation, before the end of the season
c. Achieve additional external funding, such that Phase 2 can be undertaken as soon as possible.

I look forward to the new Season with enthusiasm for working with you all, to help achieve the above objectives and to us all enjoying a successful 2016/17 season at Newark RUFC.

ALAN SWAIN
PRESIDENT
