Everyone at Newark Rugby Football Union club wishes the You Can Do Sport initiative every success

Newark Rugby Club
is delighted to announce a partnership with You Can Do Sport, Newark's first and only multi sports academy.

Launching this September, the Academy will open its doors to male and female students aged 16-18 years to deliver a sports education like no other and one that is unavailable elsewhere in the area.

Enrolling onto the two-year programme, students will choose between rugby or football as part of a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport.

Magnus Church of England Academy will deliver the traditional classroom based theoretical part of the programme and Newark Rugby Club will fulfil the practical training which accounts for 50 per cent of the qualification.

Training at Newark Rugby Club itself, students will be taught by RFU qualified and experienced coaches and will also be given the opportunity to further their education with RFU accredited qualifications in both coaching and refereeing.

Students will also benefit from guest speakers, special away-days and competitive games against other sixth forms and grass-roots clubs.

Alan Swain, the president of the club, said: "Newark RUFC is proud to be able to help young people foster an interest and love in sport, especially rugby union.

“Everyone at Newark Rugby Football Union club wishes the You Can Do Sport initiative every success and we are delighted to be playing an integral part in the programme.

“The club has a long and special heritage with the Magnus and, indeed, was formed by pupils and teachers connected to the school almost 100 years ago.

“This new initiative can help renew that link for a new century of rugby in the town and area. At our Kelham Road base, we have a mini and youth set up which provides rugby for well over 400 boys and girls aged from six upwards every week.

“By bringing this unique sports education programme to Newark, this initiative aims to give even more young people the opportunity to enjoy rugby and further their sporting careers.”

We are holding a 'Taster Day' for potential students and parents to find out more about the Academy and details of the 2-year BTEC programme.

These taster days are also a fantastic opportunity to meet the teachers and coaches, see the facilities and experience a taster coaching session in either rugby or football.
