Started his Senior rugby career at Kelham Road

Leicester Tigers have recognised the contribution of Dusty Hare by making him a life member of the club alongside such rugby legends in Martin Johnson and Peter Wheeler.

It means Dusty, who started his senior rugby career at Kelham Road in September 1970, is now a life member of both his home town club and the Tigers.

Dusty, who attended the Magnus Grammar School, joined Tigers from Nottingham in 1976 and went on to make 394 first team appearances, playing in four successive John Player Cup finals.

He made 25 appearances for England and played on the Lions tour to New Zealand in 1983.
In all, he amassed 7,191 points in his senior career, which is still a world record.

Since his retirement from playing, Dusty’s rugby career has seen him coach Nottingham, work for Leicester as an academy manager before joining Northampton, in a similar role, in 2010.

However, last autumn he returned to Leicester and now works as a scout.
Tigers chief executive Simon Cohen paid tribute to Dusty in his programme column before last Saturday’s match against Northampton.

“As a player, he was one of the Tigers greats and kicked many important goals for the club.

“However, younger players will be more aware of him as the man who did so much to set up the club’s academy and talent identification systems.”

Dusty is a regular at Kelham Road and was among the guests of honour when opening the new dressing room block last September.
