From the Director Senior Playing

A Happy New Year to one and all.

So, Saturday marked the first games of 2018 with great wins for the 1sts, 2nds and 3rds.

It also marks the mid-point in the season where we start to play the return fixtures. The first team completed the first ‘double’ with a hard-fought win against an improving Ilkeston side. However, alongside the tremendous team effort, a big thank you must also go to the large contingent of vociferous Newark supporters. Your support makes a big difference and is much appreciated by the team and coaching staff.

It is often said “there are no easy games” - and so it is for us going into the remainder of January and then February. Currently second in the League, we are striving to make every game a win in the quest for promotion. Additionally, there is the challenging away trip to Whitchurch in the Intermediate Cup as well as fitting in fixtures postponed due to the weather.

The 2nds, 3rds and 4th teams have enjoyed mixed fortunes in the first half of the season. It has not always been easy to find four sides on a Saturday – which leads me neatly into a request.

Having watched the friendly festive games, there seemed to be a considerable number of players who would be more than capable of playing in the senior sides. We currently have a number of injuries across all the teams, therefore your return to support any of the senior sides would be very welcome.

So, supplement that New Year diet with some training, and even better - have a run out on a Saturday afternoon. Don’t fancy training, got work on a Saturday morning - no problem, just make yourself available for a home game. It all helps - especially when we require just a handful of additional players to field four sides.

A final request to all players, please give us early notice of your availability. Our first look at selection takes place on a Tuesday evening ready for the following Saturday. It is a massive help to all the team managers to know who’s available.

Great new facilities, fantastic supporters, so come and play.

You’re a long time retired.

Thanks.

Pete Mitchell.
