Ben, who is presently helping to coach teams at Nottingham University, joins the club on June 1 in preparation for the new season next September. The 36-year-old said: “I’m delighted to be joining a distinguished junior club with such a proud record. “But I’m looking forward to working with the present players and helping to develop the club’s very promising senior youth players in conjunction with the youth team coaches." "There's a lot of hard work for everyone but I aim to make the rugby enjoyable and to help players fulfil their potential in a consistently winning team." Club president Alan Swain said: “I am delighted that the club has been able to appoint someone of Ben's considerable coaching and playing experience. Ben has had an extensive playing career which started at school in Leicestershire and led him to gain A-team honours for England under-18s and under-21s. During his senior playing career, he played both sides of the scrum and had a nine-year stint at Moseley. Injury finished his playing days when he was helping to coach Sheffield Tigers two years ago. Ben takes over the reins from Richard Byrom, the club’s Director of rugby who has acted as stand-in coach since the departure of Nathan Smith in December. Richard is set to continue his distinguished service to the club next season as a member of a senior coaching team being put together.
It’s a big challenge!"
The club is determined to return to Midlands One level rugby as soon as possible and Ben's appointment is a key step towards achieving our objective.”
Since then he has worked at Leicester Lions and Nottingham University.
