Seasons Greetings

As we approach Christmas, it scarcely seems possible that we are half way through another season at Kelham Road.

I am pleased to be able to report that our Club is in very fine fettle and that we can approach 2015 with confidence.

We have continued to be able to field 4 senior teams on the majority of weekends, something which many other clubs are failing to do.

Results have been mixed, with the 1st XV struggling against a long list of injuries and unavailability. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th XVs have all had some notable wins.

One very encouraging aspect is the high number of young players that have migrated from our Youth Section into the Senior Club- with several already having appeared for the 1st and 2nd XVs.

My thanks go not only to the players, but the coaches and team managers, whose efforts go mostly unseen.

Our Mini and Youth Section goes from strength to strength, with record numbers being registered to participate.
The Youth teams have been particularly successful and many Newark players have represented NLD, with the U17 winning the Midlands title.
The Girls Section has also really taken off, with good numbers at both age groups.

Our M & Y Section is the envy of many other clubs.

All this would not be possible without the dedication of a huge band of volunteers that commit themselves weekly- to which we owe a huge debt of gratitude.

I would also like to thank the other volunteers who contribute to the smooth running of the Club and who have been fantastic in their support of our Building our Future efforts.

This season we have attracted a record level of sponsorship for matches, pitch-side boards and shirts, among other items.

Again thanks go to the hard work of our Sponsorship Committee.

The Club is in a sound financial position due, amongst other things, to excellent bar takings and the promotion of the Club’s facilities for non-rugby purposes.
As always, more could be spent at the bar to help the Club!

Our Building our Future fund raising campaign is going very well, with almost £60,000 raised to date. Events are planned, or being planned, that make us confident that we will achieve our target of £200,000.

With regard the design of the new Clubhouse, our architects will be presenting options to the membership at a meeting being planned for early February.

Our success as a Club would not be achieved without the dedication of our staff. Thanks to the ground, bar and office staff who regularly go beyond the call of duty.

Please try and join us for the President’s Boxing Day Match- full details on our excellent web site- a perfect way to blow off some cobwebs.

Please accept my apologies should I have omitted to mention every facet of the Club, but my appreciation of your efforts is still sincere.

May I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous 2015.

Alan Swain
