Festive Season

The annual Vets versus Virgins tussle on Thursday evening heralded the start of the Christmas and New Year break.

Thanks to the two teams for providing the spills and thrills.

The Young Ones won by five tries to three over a veteran collection including Tom Pykett at 56.
Tries for the oldies came from Jerry Duggan, Max Chapple and Mickey Knapton. Is he really 38?

Good to see Gee, a guest of Nick Scotts’s from the Indian RFU, helping out the oldies.
Tries for the young ones came from Jack Clayton, James Campbell, Joe Hookins, Sam Cranswick and Jed Chapple.

Finally, thanks to the girls’ group for organising the raffle afterwards.

The cheddar and chutney will do nicely.
Ernie your bottle of Bucks Fizz is behind the bar.
Whoever opted for the sack of spuds must have enough for six months let alone the next two weeks.
As for the brace of pheasants - good luck to the plucker…

Team News

Good luck also to Dan Mackie who is scheduled to make his first start at fly half today in the absence of the hamstrung Matt Cox. Dan has joined from Spalding and made a good contribution at centre in last week’s defeat at Derby. The thinking on Thursday pointed to a return at No 6 for Freddie Tatham plus students Ben Dixon and Will Britten in the three-quarters. Richard Primett, who had a strong game last Saturday on his recall, continues at lock alongside Rory Williams who impressed the Derby judges so much they made him man-of-the-match.

Colts at Doncaster

I can’t remember the last time a colts’ team from Newark played midweek in December.
So congratulations to the gang who took a team up to Doncaster last week.

We may have lost but it sounds a good game and showed the enthusiasm for the game at this level.

Good luck to all the youths and juniors after Christmas as Cup competitions reach the knock-out stage.

Seconds & Thirds

The call this week has been ‘home only’ as it’s the senior teams’ Christmas Drink Up tonight. Unfortunately, the same cry has been made across the region so we have failed to persuade a team to travel here. Thus the 2nds and 3rds go without games today for one reason or another. The 2nds were originally let down by Ilkeston who cried off. We could have played at Melton, Syston, Belgrave, Vipers, Market Rasen. Good luck to the intrepid 4ths who go all the way to Hykeham.
