Newark Colts 26 Melton 17
It was wet and messy and that was just the old clubhouse after 150 members and supporters had enjoyed a their ‘last supper’ in the building which is due to be demolished in the coming days to start a summer new build.
On the pitch, the club’s colts led the way on an afternoon of memories for some and the start of senior rugby careers for others.
Newark fended off a bigger Melton team to win by four tries to three in a competitive friendly on the main Kelham Road pitch.
Home tries came from Toby Taylor, James Stimpson, Ed Armstrong and Josh Seabrook. Sam Booth kicked the conversions.
Next stop for the colts is a ‘transitional’ match at Dronfield next Saturday when a vets/colts team will be in action.
Thanks to Karl Bartsch for the photos and Harry Pick for the lunchtime pic.
The first team are back in action next Saturday (April 14) away to Coalville, kick off 3pm.
