The under-14s, who beat Scunthorpe 13-12 in the semi-final, face Spalding at Derby on March 3 while the under-15s, recent winners over Mansfield, take on either Derby or Bridgford at Scunthorpe on a date in April. They could be joined by the under-16s who meet Paviors in their semi-final on Sunday Feb 10 at Kelham Road, kick off 11am. For the under-15s, it’s a second successive final. Team official Stephanie Milligan reports: “A strong start saw us leading 12-0 at half-time. Mansfield, however, had other idea. They scored 2 tries and a conversion to level. NLD Representation Congratulations Props Josh White and Callum Heyes (younger brother of Leicester’s Joe Heyes) are in the under-16s squad for Notts, Lincs & Derbys in games over the next few weeks. These latest honours follow on from the success of the Colts squad having eight players in the NLD squad. Four players – James Brogden, Will Harding-Terry, Jacob Pearson and Will Seage – are now in the mix for Midlands honours. Congratulations to them and to the other Newarkers who played for NLD this season in Sam Booth, James Stimson, James Harding and Noah Clegg. And finally… Congratulations to the club’s three Tigers who all appeared in the Premiership Cup match at Northampton.
The 17-15 semi-final win over Mansfield sounds an epic.
Newark fought hard but a penalty with only a few minutes left saw Mansfield lead 12-15. Newark, however, were not to be beaten, sheer determination saw us touchdown and leave the pitch as the winners.
Final score: 17-15.”
The first match against Staffs at Derby ended in a 36-7 win.
Jordan Olowofela and Joe Heyes have been regulars in Leicester’s senior squad this season and have now been joined by Academy member Jonny Law who was a second-half substitute scrum-half at Franklin’s Gardens.
