Newark Rugby Club gain funding for clubhouse project

Newark Rugby Football Club is delighted to announce further backing for the development of a new clubhouse, Phase 1 of which was started last year.

A grant of £49,660 has been awarded by the community action fund of WREN, the not-for-profits business that awards grants for community projects.

The grant will be used to provide new toilet facilities for both men and women, including facilities for people with disabilities, as well as accommodating a baby changing area in what is Phase 2 of the project.

When completed, the new clubhouse will provide state-of-the-art facilities for the use of over 500 players, including four senior men’s team, mini and youth teams from six upwards and a girls and women’s section.

Alan Swain, the President, said that the WREN funding was a most welcome addition to a list of funding partners for the overall project, including Sport England and the Rugby Football Union.
Mr Swain said: “This funding from WREN will be a real boost to this development which will benefit the whole rugby community who play at the club’s Kelham Road base.

“The club started work on the project some four years ago and the members have raised well over £200,000 towards the cost of the project.
“The aim is to have a new facility that’s fit for the 21st Century, not just for the rugby club but for the community and other sports organisations.”

WREN is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community, biodiversity and heritage projects from funds donated by FCC Environment through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Cheryl Raynor, WREN’s grant manager for Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire said: “We are delighted to be supporting redevelopment of the sports facilities at the club and pleased that our funding will provide such a fantastic facility for people across Newark.

WREN is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that make a difference to local communities and we’re really looking forward to seeing this one take shape soon.”
