An improved second-half display brought Newark reward in the opening pre-season friendly at Burton.
Tries from fly half Dan Mackie, wing Will Britten and back-rower James Newman kept Newark on the heels of Burton who had won the first half 24-0.
While Mackie and Newman pounced from close range, Britten’s try came from a sweeping counter-attack led by fellow wing Ben Usher.
Newark fielded a young squad including brothers Connor and Callum Slack and Alex O'Dell, impressing at scrum-half.
Next stop for the Newark squad is a training game at Lincoln on Thursday evening, kick off 7.30pm.
The league season starts on Saturday week (Sept 5) at Kettering, kick off 3pm. The second team are also at Kettering that day.
