REPORT WRITTEN BY ROB WILDMAN
Saturday December 5
Midlands One East
Huntingdon 41 Newark 14
Newark produced another gutsy performance but failed to make the most of their chances in the first half at windy Huntingdon.
Tries from lock Rory Williams and flanker Tom Crosby gave Newark hope of a first win in five games but ultimately Huntingdon were too strong and took their chances the better.
Newark made up for a poor start when Williams raced through to score his team’s first try and Crosby, who finished off after Alex Scott had charged down a kick for the second.
Those scores allowed Newark to turn round 14-22 down after Huntingdon had scored three tries in an eventful first half which also brought two yellow cards for the home team.
However, Newark slipped away in the second half when they also had two players carded to help hand the advantage to Huntingdon who won by six tries to two.
No one could fault Newark for effort and it was good to see some enterprising play from fly half LukeTupholme and full-back Alex Scott.
Newark must now regroup to play their last home game before Christmas, against Ilkeston, on Saturday, kick off 2.15pm at Kelham road.
