Midlands One East
An excellent final 40 minutes fired Newark to a second successive league victory to help the team out of the relegation zone in Midlands One East.
Newark backed up the win at Market Rasen before Christmas by producing another all-round display which saw them pull clear after a first half when they led 5-3, front-row forward Jed Chapple scoring the try.
After a first half of good defence, Newark went on the attack in the second to record a bonus point win thanks to tries from backs Luke Tupholme, Alosei Waqalevu, Pat Ford and Calum Slack.
The man-of-the-match award went to lock Jon Webster who was part of a hard-working pack.
Tupholme started the scoring spree after the interval by bursting clear for a try which Alex Scott, a first-half substitute for the injured Ben Usher, converted.
That try was quickly followed by a score straight from the re-start made by Scott and finished off by Waqalevu.
A good break by flanker Josh Hubbard, another substitute, paved the way for Newark’s fourth try through wing Pat Ford.
To complete the match, Scott was again involved as Calum Slack raced in at the corner.
Newark used all three substitutes as hooker Ian Tomlinson was replaced at half-time by Rob Dunning with Chapple, who had started at prop, moving to the middle of the front row.
The win puts Newark two points ahead of Market Rasen, who are third from bottom ahead of Matlock and Old Laurentians.
Newark are at home again next Saturday, against Wellingborough,
