Newark had a tough day on the road to Peterborough Lions where the promotion-chasing home team dominated.

After the success in taking two points off leaders Old Northamptonians last week, Newark hoped for a return in another difficult fixture.
Two penalty goals from fly half Danny Coen had kept Newark in the match during a competitive opening, but Lions took control by scoring three tries in quick succession to grab control.

Newark needed a try to get themselves back into the match and finished the first half on top only for the referee not to allow a seemingly good score from prop Darren Gray.

Lions turned round 29-6 ahead, having scored first through a penalty try.

Coen replied when he kicked his first penalty goal and then a second one in between another touchdown for the home team.
In all the Lions scored five tries in the first half and added another three after the interval when Newark’s best efforts were stopped by some good defence.

Newark gained some positives from a difficult afternoon in the performance of young players, especially new prop Joe Tinsley who made his first league start.
The return of Freddie Tatham pepped up the Newark pack in a hard-working back five of Richard Primett, Neil Clark, Tom Coen and James Price who injured a shoulder.

Newark called on all three subs, including a return to first team duty of prop Devan Priestley who replaced Tinsley in the second half.

The starting team was again changed from the previous week against Old Northamptonians. Matt Cox and Danny Coen were both back on duty in the backline while wing Jack Badley was called up on the wing.

Newark’s next league game is on Saturday week (Dec 10) at home to Paviors, kick off 2.15pm.

Next Saturday the 1st team are due to play Dronfield in the first round of the NLD Cup. KO details to be confirmed.
