Good support play by all the forwards

Newark played some controlled forward rugby to put Moderns under pressure from the start and good line-out play brought the first try by Jason Barnsdale.

From the restart Dev Preistley made ground and shortly after scored a good individual try. Craig Hawes, having a good game at No 8, then scored another forward’s try before Dan Padgett thought the backs should get in on the scoring with a good backs move to score the fourth try.

Moderns rallied and put Newark under pressure only for a quick turn over in the Newark 22 which allowed Tom Hill to show his unique running display to score under the posts. Steve Mower converted.

Newark went to sleep then and Moderns scored a try which was converted. Hawes then popped up again to score before Moderns again came back and scored before the break. Half-time score 32-12.

Straight from the restart Newark put Moderns under pressure and Preistley scored in the corner which saw Mower convert.

Newark playing some flowing rugby soon scored again when Craig Johnson broke through putting down under the posts with Mower converting.

Newark made further changes and the utility player Ben Ennals came on to the back row and soon found himself on the score sheet with an outrageous show and go which left the Moderns full-back motionless as Ben scored.

The game was all but over. Good support play by all the forwards gave Alex Jackson a short distance to travel to score and Mower slotted his fourth conversion.

Newark seemed to ease off and Moderns scored two late tries to make the score more respectful
