Newark 36 Mansfield 8
Another strong performance
Newark produced another dominant performance to beat local rivals Mansfield very convincingly.
The game started with both sides trying to dominant up front and for the first 20 minutes it was a relatively close game.
However once Newark started to play a little more expansively the visitors could not cope with the pace and Newark opened the scoring with Dan Harrison going over. Shortly after, a poor clearance kick from the Mansfield 10 allowed the home side to counter and right winger Dermot smashed through some weak tackling to double the score.
A penalty kick from Mansfield reduced the arrears to 12-3 but Newark had the final word of the first half when the old man Byrom scored to make it 17-3 at half time.
The second half started as the first half had finished with Newark on top and a lovely show and go from Jacob Andrews and he went under the posts to get the bonus point.
Mansfield then probably had their best period of the game and from a 5m scrum they drove the Newark pack over the line to make it 24-8.
However if you thought there was going to be a Mansfield comeback, Newark responded in the best possible way and scored the best try of the afternoon.
A great break from the youngster Kent Birch who fed Dermot who then provided the scoring pass for Matt Woolridge.
Newark were now in complete control and their final score came from Budda to make the final score 36-8.
Special mention must go to the Newark back rowers of Dave Garland and M O M Ben Lovelace who were prominent all afternoon. Also great to see Freddie Tatham and Shaun May back in Newark colours after injuries and we also welcomed back the silver fox Martin Brummitt.
It is now four wins on the trot and its off to Market Rasen next week
