2nd XV Report v Market Rasen

Won 57-10

Unbeaten in September

The second team continued their fine start to the season with a comprehensive victory away at Market Rasen. It is now played 3 in the Pennant, won 3

The team showed a number of changes from last week- in came James Price, Matt Brewer, James Stark, Bryan Loftus,Ted Bunn and debutant Dan Wilson

The game did not start well for Newark, weak tackling let the Market Rasen No 13 skip through several tackles and they were 7-0 down after 5 minutes.
However back came Newark and after some good linking play between Backs and Forwards Ben Lovelace scored. Shortly afterwards a speculative kick from Ted Bunn allowed Matt Brewer to win the sprint to the ball and so score his first try for Newark in over two years.
He doubled his account when he made a powerful run brushing off several Rasen players.
The home side responded and after several attempts to breach the Newark line were rewarded with a penalty to make the score 17-10

Newark continued to dominate and Brewer completed his hat trick with another surging run, shrugging off several Rasen players as he went over.
Then shortly before half time a break down the short side found Byrom in space who fed Lovelace to go over in the corner 29-10 at half time.

A tough team talk from skipper Staines who emphasised the need for more control and improved defence.

A few changes were made, on came Dave Garland and Ben McCarthy and within five minutes a flowing move that started in Newarks 22 and involved 5 or 6 pairs of hands ended up with Bunn scoring under the posts- a good team try.

However this score was eclipsed by an even better one 15minutes later when after terrific support play with Price, Barnsdale, Bunn, May, Jackson, Garland, and Harrison all involved, Price scored.

Newark were rampant and further scores came from Mark Staines and Bryan Loftus-making 9 tries in total.

Dan Wilson playing at fly half converted 6 of them to give a final score of 57-10

Next week Matlock at home
