Paviors started the second half strong and put Newark under pressure

Report Written by Mark Staines

Newark 2's report.

Newark 29-30 Paviors

Newark were well prepared for a tough game against a strong Paviors side.

Newark started well but it was Paviors who scored first when they got a penalty inside Newark's 22 and a quick tap caught the Newark side a sleep and Pavs scoring in the corner. 0-5.
They then got a penalty to go 0-8 up.

The Newark pack were dominant in the lineout and a good catch and drive from outside the 22 was driven over with captain Mark Staines scoring 7-10.
Paviors came back strong and when Newark switched off in defence the Pavs backs punished them scoring again 7-13.
Newark rallied and some good work from man of the match Jason Barnsdale gave the backs a chance with great Interchanges from Bryan Loftus and Martin Brummitt saw Bryan score a try which was converted by Dan Wilson 14-13.

Half time 14-13

Paviors started the second half strong and put Newark under pressure from the start which resulted in 2 tries in quick succession 14-23.

A penalty from Dan closed the gap 17-23.

Some good play again by the Newark pack put Paviors under pressure and when a loose kick landed in Max Spurr's hands he handed off 2 players to score and a conversion from Dan Wilson put Newark in front 24-23.

Newark were pressing for the win but when Dan missed touch with a penalty the Paviors side pushed forward and a couple of silly penalties saw them work their way down the pitch to score a try, which for the first time the Paviors 10 scored the conversion 24-30.

With time running out Newark pressed and some great lines from Jason Barnsdale, Dev Preistley and hard work from Alex Jackson saw Bryan Loftus cut a great line to score the final try of the game.

We all looked on as Dan hit the conversion only for it to glide the wrong side of the post 29-30. With a couple of minutes left on the clock Newark ran the ball back from the kick off and pressed Paviors back into their 22 but when the ball came loose Paviors hooker kicked it out and the game was over.

Final score 29-30
