2nd XV Report v Coalville

Won 57-5

2’s produce a work-man like performance

With the home game against Hinckley cancelled, it was a travel to Coalville for Newark’s second string on Saturday.

Newark’s team yet again had a number of changes as the 1st team had called up 4 of the 2nd XV regulars.
However, it was a welcome return for Alex Moore and there were also 2nd team debuts to James Witton and Matt Pindar - who both did very well in a work-man like team performance.

Coalville started the game with only 12 players but to their credit managed to convince a couple more to play and finished with 14 players.

Newark scored 4 tries in the first half and 5 in the second half without ever playing at their very best. However when they did decide to go through the phases and use their extra men they scored some excellent tries.

Hooker Ged Chapple scored a brace as did youngster Harry Adams and man of the match Devan Priestley.

Alex Moore scored a try and converted 6 of the tries to contribute 17 points.
Craig Hawes and Ben McCarthy were the other try scorers (his first of the season)
To their credit Coalville kept battling to the bitter end and they were awarded a penalty try late on.

Rather disappointingly Newark were shown 2 yellow cards- Craig Hawes and Ben Ennals the recipients.

Next week it is the crunch game against Derby - it is a must win game for the 2’s and discipline will need to be maintained throughout if we are to win.
