Won 72-0

The 2’s have an easy win

After a hard fought victory against local rivals Paviors last week, it was expected to be another challenge for the 2’s this week against Spalding.

However a weak Lincolnshire side turned up at Kelham Road on Saturday and as such provided little opposition for the Home team. Arriving with only 14 players, the writing was on the wall when from minute one stand in skipper Mark Staines crashed over the line- it was going to be all one way traffic.

Tries followed at regular intervals throughout the first half, wingers Tom Hill and Richard Thompson grabbed a brace and there were further scores from Curtis Marshall, Richard Bevan and Jonny Statham, with Matt Cox (first game back after a serious injury) converting four of them it meant Newark led 48-0 at the interval.

However after the interval the home side seemed to lose their way a little and although it never looked like the opposition would score, poor concentration and countless errors meant that only a further four scores were registered. It should have been a lot more!!! Man of the match Tom Hill scored again to give him his hat-trick.
Curtis Marshall grabbed his second of the game and Joe Moody scored his debut try for the 2’s. Matt Cox also added a try (to make a team total of 12) to his six conversions for a personal tally of 17points.

The final score was 72-0.

Difficult to criticise when we have won by such a big score but we will have to be much more clinical and show much greater levels of concentration next week if we are to beat arch rivals Mansfield in the Ron Rossin Cup.
