Newark 58 - 5 Mansfield

Newark started well from kick off putting Mansfield under pressure but good defending kept us out for the first 10 minutes. Matt Cox missed an opening attempt at a penalty but made up with it a couple of minutes later by scoring Newark's first points of the day slotting a penalty in front of the posts. From the Kick off Newark pressed and good running from Richard Primett gave Matt another chance to slot the ball through the posts 6 - 0. Newark had settled down well and when Tom Hill chipped through a good bounce landed in his hands and Newark scored their first try, Matt Cox converted 13 - 0. Straight from the kick of a great catch from Primett set James Newman on his was and powerful running saw him score, again Matt converted 20 - 0. Newark had the momentum and good support play by Jamie Duncan put him in for Newark's third try in as many minutes 25 - 0. Mansfield had a team talk under the posts and for the rest of the half put under pressure. Silly penalties from Newark meant we couldn't get out of our 22 but great defense across the team including Sam Andrews (First 2nd team game) kept Mansfield out and a little sigh of relief from all the Newark players as the Half time whistle went.

Half time 25 - 0

With the wind and rain behind them, Mansfield started the second half as they finished the first and put Newark under pressure from the kick off. From a line out on our 22 the big Mansfield pack mauled their way across the line and the Newark Players had a quiet word with each other about focus 25 - 5. Newark started to play some phases and good pressure saw James Newman score his second 30 - 5. Straight from the kick off Primett made another strong run and good team support gave Robbie Hunter Shaw the 5th try, Cox converted 37 - 5. Next it was strong running from the forwards and a good break by Matt Cox followed by good hands across the back line saw Josh Hubbard Making his second team debut stopped just short from scoring his first try, but getting quick ball meant Richard Primett power over the line, cox converted again 44 - 5. James Newman was everywhere and from the kick off caught by Duncan, James took a looping run handed off several Mansfield players and scored his third try off the game, Cox converted 51 - 5. Again straight from the kick off Primett and Newman combined well and when Matt Cox found him self in space he took a great line to cap off a good performance with a try of his own and converting it making the final score 58 - 5.

Man of the Match went to James Newman for another outstanding performance in his first year at senior rugby.
