2nd xv v Notts Medics
Lost 65-10
A weakened Newark side are well beaten
It was always going to be a tough fixture against the students but with numerous injuries to the 1st XV, unavailability’s and last minute call offs it was made even more difficult. So it was a very weak team ( that was predominantly a side made up of last years 3rds and 4ths) that turned out at Kelham Road on Saturday
The game could not have started any worse and within fifteen minutes the students had run in four unanswered tries. Poor tackling and expansive rugby from the students had allowed them to dominate play.
It was going to be long afternoon and this was made worse when Newark then lost youngster Joe Green with a broken nose.
The home side did battle back and after a sustained period of possession, Dave Garland crashed over to reduce the arrears. However two further tries from the visitors meant it was 36-5 at half time
After the break, although Newark tried to stem the flow it was more of the same from the students. They threw the ball around and inevitably more scores followed.
The only consolation for the home side was a late score by No 8 Dave Garland.
Final score Medics 65 Newark 10
A massive thanks must go Taylor Whyles, Lee Gillatt, Josh Witton and Paul Sutton for ‘stepping up to the plate’ at the very last minute – Thanks lads
Also well done to our joint men of the match Dave Garland and Jack Badley, who both made outstanding contributions during the afternoon.
Let’s hope we have more players available next week
