REPORT WRITTEN BY GARETH BARTSCH
Newark 2nds once again fielded a much changed side including a couple of returning faces to continue the hard work of the last few weeks.
The game started well for Newark looking to ascertain the forward dominance over the mobile and tough tackling Loughborough pack.
Hard work at the breakdown from the forwards along with effective game management from the half backs meant that Newark gained strong field position and eventually the patience paid off as gaps appeared and the Newark back line began to exploit the holes. The first half into the wind ended with Newark in commanding 12-0 lead.
The second half followed predominantly the same pattern as the first with Newark utilising the wind and superior fitness to run in a further five tries.
The score line was a much needed boost for the Newark boys who have put in a couple of great away performances with little reward.
Tries came from Mark Byrom (2), Ted Bunn, Jed Chapple, Alex Scott, Lee Gillet and Ollie Brown.
