2nd Xv v Market Rasen Saturday 1st October
First Pennant victory
Newark continued their winning start to the season with a convincing win in their first pennant game of the season and make it 3 wins out of 3
Congratulations to Sam Dobson, first senior game for Newark, also welcome back Richard ‘the sausage’ Primett.
Newark started well and after 4 minutes James Stark finished off a flowing move to open the scoring. Market Rasen responded well and for the next 15 minutes the visitors were under the ‘Kosh’ from the home side. But having weathered the storm and after Ben Ennals had made a try saving tackle the No 9 bulldozed his way over the line to double the score
Then 5 minutes before half-time Newark extended their lead when replacement Primett on for the injured Bartsch picked up the ball and smashed his way over the line, Robbie H S added the extras and it was now a comfortable 17-0 lead.
From the kick off though a loose kick found the Rasen 15 in space and after a ‘mazy run and 1 or 2 missed tackles he went under the posts and with the conversion it meant it was 17-7 at half time
Into the second half and for the first 20 minutes of this half Newark totally dominated play and actually played some good quality rugby.
There were tries from Neil Clark, Richard Byrom (on for the injured Neil Mckenna) a second for Richard Primett and a debut try for Sam Dobson and with Robbie adding 2 conversions it meant Newark had a very healthy lead 41-7
The last 15 minutes were rather disappointing with lots of unforced errors from both sides and the game finished with no further scores
Overall a very pleasing victory - stand out performers were Jon Webster, Neil Clark and Richard Primett in the forwards and Dave Garland! In the backs. Also youngster Sam Dobson had a very solid and encouraging debut and it was nice to see Ben Ennals back in the mix.
Next week is away (4 week on the bounce) against West Bridgford in the Pennant
