Newark 10 - Notts medics 24
First of all apologies for the lateness of this match report.
Newark entertained Notts Medics in this Pennant fixture fielding a strong side which saw the debut at this level for Nick Samuels at tight head prop, the return of Mark Miller at 10 after first team duties so far this season and Craig Hawes moving from 7 to hooker.
From the kick off Newark were involved in a physical encounter against a Medics side that has matured well and showed a good mixture of power and finesse. The frustrating thing was that it was missed tackles that let them over the white wash on 2 occasions in the first 20 minutes to put Newark 14 - 0 down, a further penalty and a well worked try from Medics put the score at 24 0 and a thumping was on the cards.
Newark were not without possession or territory in the first half, it was the decision making in the final 3rd that let Medics off the hook coupled with a lack of pressure on the opposition when they had the ball.
Late in the first half the possession Newark had turned into points as Sam Sibilski looped in for a score in the corner. 24 - 5 half time.
A turgid second half saw neither side dominate in attack, defences were on top and with Newark now putting Medics under pressure in possession and the tackles going in it was Newark who nicked the second half honours with a superb finish from Rhys Overland, who almost lost his head diving into the corner.
Final score 24 10,
Medics deserved their win, Newark know it could have been a different story had the first half matched the second.
