Newark did the hard work well, and when it mattered were clinical in putting points on the board.

2 out of 2 for manager Simon Glass

Newark 2nds built on last weeks win with a gritty performance on a slippery pitch that wasn't very conducive to running rugby.
Changes saw debuts for Ben Sowerby Jones at 2nd row and Phil Boger at tight head prop, both moving up from the 3rd XV and under 18 Bradley Eames making his senior debut joining the action at half time in the centres.

Market Rasen were clearly up for the game and possessed a big heavy pack, from kick off they looked to run everything at Newark and started slightly the brighter of the 2 sides.
Once Newark got to grips with the physicality and difficult under foot conditions the patterns started to build.
Flankers Naylor and Hawes were causing a nuisance and 20 minutes into the half the 1st score came as the forwards banged the ball up the middle channel, an overlap was created and quick hands found Sibilski to go down in the corner for the 1st score.
Conversion missed.
Newark quickly added a penalty through Wooldridge and at 8 0 looked to be in charge of the game.
Then came the only defensive mix up of the game as Rasen kicked deep, Weston Davies collected the ball deep in his own 22, with the other 14 players expecting a kick into clearance. Weston Davies thought he'd take on the whole Rasen side, as a flanker playing 12 naturally would! Unfortunatly he got collared and in the resulting play Newark conceded a penalty, a quick tap and go and Rasen were back in the game, 8 - 5.
A second Wolldridge penalty gave Newark an 11 - 8 lead at half time.

Second half saw Eames come in at the centre and Robinson to the back row.
A similar half ensued with Newark enjoying possession but by not committing enough Rasen defenders to the break down gaps were hard to find.
It was an opportunist break mid second half that found Robinson loitering on the wing and he touched down in the corner for a 16 - 5 lead.
The icing on the cake came 10 minutes later when Rasen were pressing Newark, a strong scrum from Rasen put pressure on the Newark pack.
Newark held it together and quick hands from Jay who was now at 10 for the injured Miller found Sibilski just outside his own 22, a 70 yard dash to the oppositions try line was blocked only by the Rasen 15, Sibilski shouted for Overland to come inside him, so Overland duly obliged, coming inside Sibilski, the 15 followed Overland and Sibilski waltzed over for his second of the match, converted by Wooldridge.
A good result without playing particularly pretty rugby, Newark did the hard work well, and when it mattered were clinical in putting points on the board.

Well played.
