Newark were on the back foot most of the first half, defending up the slope; Mansfield drew first blood with a penalty after 17 minutes.
From the restart Newark attacked, Harry Pick charged up the field off loading to Robin Burton Warring who fed James Price in support who crashed over the line. Robin BW converted. Although Mansfield kept Newark pinned in their 22 for the next 20 minutes their only reward Mansfield got was a further penalty which was missed and the score remained 3 - 7 at the break.
Although Newark had the advantage of the slope in the second half, the weight and experience of the Mansfield team held strong and they scored the next try after taking a scrum against the head. They converted the score and took the lead for the second time. Mansfield applied all sorts of preasure but Newark held firm and in the last 15 they counter attacked and won a penalty in front of the posts which Robin BW converted. There were no furthe points and Mansfield held on to a slim 15 points to 10 win.
