A far closer contest took place on the 2nd XV pitch where Newark 2nds were eventually outgunned. A poor start cost them momentum and they turned round 19-8 down at half-time, wing Josh Jay touching down for a try and Dusty Miller having kicked a penalty.

The second half saw Newark close the gap through tries by full-back Richard Byrom and hooker Gareth Bartsch but the home team finished on top.
