Both forwards and backs dominate

With both sides fielding a number of Kings School pupils, a minute’s silence was held to remember Max Hubbard. With emotions running high, Newark kicked off to begin a great game of rugby. After some great defence from both teams the game remained tied at 0-0 after 5 minutes. Then a great tackle from George, followed by ferocious rucking and quick hands from the backs saw George in at the corner for Newark’s first try of the game.
More solid defence from Newark after the restart, then on the attack again, a great break by Ben T coupled with a fabulous running line from Johnno sets up George’s 2nd.
Next Ben T sold a great dummy and the space opened up for him to run in untouched. A great break by Jake T, solid forward rucking, quick hands down the backs and JP linking around as the extra man and he’s in for Newark’s fourth try of the day. Two more tries are to come in this third, one from Max and one from Johnno.
6-0 at the end of the first third.
After changing half the team, Newark were straight back into it and some great play from Jacob sees Tom T go over in the corner after another great running line from the fullback.
Then Newark are awarded a penalty. A quick tap and go, a lovely handoff and William S is in for his first try of the morning. From the resulting restart sees great interplay from Tom T and Josh. Unfortunately the play breaks down and Kesteven break down the wing and with no cover for the two attacking players, this is an easy run in for Kesteven’s first and only try of the day. Another 10m though and Ben T would have stopped him.
My try of the day then comes from a ruck in the Kesteven 22. William S dummies and then snipes around the ruck and is in for his 2nd of the day! Josh goes in at the corner for his first of the season and well deserved too!
Finally Dec goes under the posts for Newark’s last try of the day. The Ref offers Kesteven an early finish which they decide to take.
11-1 final score
Today saw an excellent game of rugby from Newark. The forwards were fabulous and laid a great platform for the backs to run freely. A feisty encounter, honours to Newark.
Too many names to mention, you were all brilliant. My Man of the Match William S!
Keep it up Boys!
