A good all round team performance

A lovely sunny and dry morning sees us arrive at Doncaster. If the Doncaster team play anything like the facilities then we’re in for a hard morning’s rugby!
Kick off and good defence from both sides, great tackles from Ben T and Declan stop the Doncaster attack. George manages to break away with some great support from William B, but unfortunately at the next play Doncaster break away and score the first try of the match.
Having only won one away trip all season, in our first game, away trips have been our nemeses this season and when we have fallen behind the team has struggled. But with heads still up, Newark bounce back, and a nice chip ahead by Matthew is eventually collected by Ethan who then puts in a sweetly timed pass to put Declan into the corner for Newark’s 1st of the day.
The game continues with defences soaking up most of the attacks, until Jacob makes a great tackle and steal. The ball goes out to Ben T and he’s under untouched for our 2nd.
Matthew then makes a try saving tackle on the far side of the pitch, just like Halfpenny head on the wrong side! Quick reactions from the resulting ruck sees William S pick up and sprint in, great vision.
And that’s the end of the first half, nothing really between the teams, but Newark go in 3-1 up.
The 2nd half starts much the same and a great steal from the tackle by Ben T sees him turn and go in for a super solo effort.
As we start to move away, this allows Newark to try some moves with confidence. A scrum on the 10m line and a Muffin move is called, great hands and timing see’s George burst through a couple of boys before being brought down, but great support by Ben T and its try no5 for Newark and Ben T’s 3rd.
Great vision for our next try as Ben T sees Doncaster have failed to stretch out their defence and a greatly executed cross field kick for George to pick up and walk over for No6!
Doncaster reply with their 2nd. Newark reply straight away and great drive by Harvey and Doncaster are going backwards. Ethan and George then put in a great tackle which allows George to pick up the ball from the base of the ruck and run in from the halfway line.
Doncaster break through once more to score and the whistle goes.
Final score Doncaster 3 Newark 7.
A great all round match with most people up for MOTM, but another great display by Jacob sees him pick up the trophy. Great vision and awareness today and a pleasure to watch!
