Annual Golf Match goes to the wire

Annual Golf Match goes to the wire v Market Rasen RUFC at Welton Manor GC last Friday.

On a seriously wet course, that got even wetter as the day progressed, the competition was played as always to Ryder Cup format.
Meaning that holders Rasen only needed to tie the pairs matches to retain the coveted Marshall ~ Cole Trophy.
This they did but the result couldn't have been any closer with a one ~all tie, But with the final match on the 18th green, and the scores in the clubhouse equal, tail end veterans White and Maltby , who were one down, needed to win the hole to save the day, if not regain the trophy.
There're few better players than R.White Esq in these testing circumstances, who duly fired in a great birdie on the par 3 to win the hole, the nearest the pin prize, and save the match. Just another day, another course.

Other congratulations go out to Andrew Fearn and Simon Smellie, who beat their opposition into submission after only 9 holes; and to Bubber Staines who lashed the longest drive by some distance.

A first visit to Welton Manor GC for most of us and the overall set~ up was a pleasant surprise. An attractive woodland course; good bar and catering facilities, and sensibly priced.
Well worth adding to your 2020 golfing to do list, but perhaps avoid the monsoon season.
