National U18 Final
Newark 7 Pulborough 36

It was frenzied and fierce stuff and an early try gave Newark hope in this under-18 final at Ealing Trailfinders, the home of the Championship Club.

But overall Pulborough were too strong and pulled away in the later stages of the second half to win by six tries to one.

Newark’s try came from Jess Weaver in the fifth minute when she raced away off a break from Alex Clack.

With Evie Gregory adding the conversion, Newark led 7-0 on a wet and cold day in West London.

Newark then had to defend for their lives in the first half and only conceded one try before half-time to lead 7-5 at the break.

They could also have grabbed a second try when Clack burst clear from her own half but the move broke down.

The second half saw Pulborough dominate possession again and the pressure started to tell.

A try from a blindside put Pulborough ahead at 10-7 going into the final quarter.

Pulborough then pulled clear to clinch this game which highlighted girls rugby full of pace and endeavour. Well played both teams.
