RFU Return to play schedule

Likely league format once return to play reaches F

Outline plan from Midlands league committee

Our league will be split into two groups based on geography, to try to reduce the amount of travelling we have to do in the early stages of the season.

Group 1 will be Newark, Lincoln, Market Rasen, Southwell, Long Eaton and Ilkeston.

Group 2 will be Ashbourne, Ashby, Coalville, Loughborough, Matlock and Melbourne.

You can see from the grid below what might happen to Newark as a Level 7 club given 3 scenarios based on differing start dates. It should be emphasised that all 3 scenarios are dependent on getting the go ahead to resume playing by reaching stage F of the return to play guidelines which are already on the website. We are currently at stage B.

So, if we got the go ahead to start playing before the 21st November it would be window one which means we’ll initially play the other 5 teams in our group home and away and then the 6 teams in the other group also home and away which would be a full 22 game season but which will finish later than normal, sometime in May.

If we can start between the 22nd November and the 16th January, then window two will take effect. Because of the later start it means that we’ll play home and away in our group and then home OR away against the 6 sides in Group 2. This will give a reduced season of 16 games and still finish sometime in May.

Lastly, if we had to start sometime between the 17th January and the 20th February then we would just play the teams in our group, home and away, giving us 10 games. The winners of Groups 1 and 2 would then play off to decide the league winner. Again this would finish in May.

It should be emphasised that even if we are able to begin playing close to our normal September start date that there will still be the 2 Group structure to make travelling easier.
