This week we are featuring the club’s under-14s squad following pieces on the colts, under-16s and under-15s in previous programmes. Next, it’s the turn of the girls’ section and minis.

Under-14s manager Matt Taylor writes:

A great set of players and coaches have seen the group work through the first part of the season.
With Covid delaying the learning opportunities, the RFU have split the season into two parts playing U13 rules for the first part and U14 rules for the second part of the season.

In the U13 rules we have protected our own ball well and made ground through the forwards and backs.
This has produced some expansive and fast-paced attacking rugby in many games.
The lads are able to attack in many parts of the pitch, testing other team’s defence and resilience.
Although it’s nice to have won all our games bar one, victory isn’t always the most important thing.

The coaches led by Chris Coen and helped by Mike ‘Jamjar’ James; James ‘Lord of the Rings’ Newton; Spencer Stevenson; Matt Taylor and Danny Coen continue to work on our team play whilst also improving each players individual skill.

As we move into U14 rules, including lineouts and flankers, we are now playing 15-a-side and hope to see the foundations laid in the first half of the year progressed in the second half.

Having said winning isn’t the most important thing we will try to avenge the one defeat, against Lincoln, to balance out the fixture!
