On Sunday 5th Feb Newark U7’s welcomed two teams from Paviors

On Sunday 5th Feb Newark U7’s welcomed two teams from Paviors, our local friendly rivals from Burnt Stump. Newark selected five teams, each with five players – our largest fixture selection to date! The weather was fairly kind to us with some sun and whilst cold, the children soon warmed up once the games commenced as a healthy crowd of Parents looked on.

In order to ensure as many Newark players got the opportunity to play against our friends from Paviors, three teams rotated around our four pitches (one recently added to our set-up due to our increased numbers!). All teams got some good game time, with 5 minutes each-way played per game.

The five Newark teams were managed and coached by John, James, Owen, Alex and myself. Feedback from both Parents and Coaches was that all players were a credit to their clubs, showing not only strong rugby skills but also great behaviours. I was really pleased to see Newark players congratulating their opposition on good passages of play, whilst accepting referee decisions with respect.

After demonstrating some great running, passing and tagging skills all players shook hands and cheered each other loudly.

Newark U7’s have now played two fixtures in succession with over 40x children having played across the two weekends, a fantastic Credit to our coaches and Victoria. At the same time we have seen good numbers at training for those not selected to play – special thanks to Gareth, Dan and Beckie for running Sunday’s fun session at the club.

It’s training as usual at 10am on Sunday 7th Feb where we can reflect on our two recent fixtures and work on our skills! As always, Parent feedback is welcome.
