Greetham Valley GC– a good find.

I am pleased, and more than a little relieved, to report that we eventually had a most enjoyable first visit to Greetham Valley GC, competing for The Alf Marshall Trophy.

Having postponed once and then driven down in steady rain the plan was to have breakfast and then consider the options.

Maybe 9 holes ?
But from then on things got better and better.

The breakfast started with croissants, a new one for most of us, but on Stan’s advice they went down well with a couple of sausages and a dollop of mustard, particularly when followed by an excellent Full Rutland.

When Dicky led his team off rain was still threatening, but not for long, and players were soon discarding jackets and sweaters as the weather became increasingly balmy.

Greetham Valley, like Rufford Park, is very much a ‘Society Course’ in that the fairways are wide and the greens are pretty straightforward but, as the scores suggest, it is far from easy, The par 5s being long and hilly, and the par 3s quirky and tricky.

All in all a most enjoyable venue and certainly one that will now go on the 2020 fixture list.

If you weren’t with us, and haven’t been there, I recommend that you give it a visit.
