Reuben, Harley, Joshi, Ted, Henry B, Matthew G, James, Joe D, and Dom. On an overcast day the rugby was anything but as Newark under 10's took on Sleaford for their first game of the season.
Sleaford arrived with the experience of two tournaments earlier in their season. It was then with excitement that Newark received the first attack. In a two game series Newark played with consistent defensive might, competing at every breakdown, rucking over the ball and achieving notable turnovers. Solid team defensive line pressure and ferocious tackling made it hard for the visitors to make progress and cross the gain line. Newark were not phased by the introduction of non-competitive scrums and used them to their advantage as solid starting blocks for attacks
Sunday was a good well organised team performance, showing promising signs of moving the ball into space as we've been practicing, with eight tries being scored. Some players touching down for the first time and others practicing their "swan dive" hat trick celebration! (We haven't coached that!)
Thanks go to the coaches and to Sleaford for a well contested match played in the spirit of good rugby. Long may it continue.
Training at Kelham road on Sunday as usual.
