Spectacular display of running rugby

Due to availability and to even up the number of games played over the season a combined Red and White team was selected to travel the short distance along the A46 to Nottm Corsairs at Lady Bay.

Team; Freddie, Teddy, Alex, Cody, Keegan, Alfie, Noah, Henry M, Calum, Rudi, Tom and Matthew W.

A crystal clear and sunny April morning set the scene for expensive running rugby and the lads didn't disappoint, the coaches and parents were massively impressed with all the lads which represented the Newark U10's this morning, particularly the team displayed the values of our great game, credit to them all for huge sportsmanship and dedication.

The game was played over four sets of 10 minutes, both Newark and Nottm teams starting with vigour and strength, from the first whistle spectators new that they were up for a good game of rugby, and the Newark lads delivered with some intense structured set pieces.

Great ball handling moving the ball between themselves out into space and sending wide players to the try line, putting training into a game, playing heads up rugby........recognising and exploiting space, moving the ball and evading defenders!

Through solid determination and discipline Newark kept a great defence line, led by Freddie and his ferocious tackling the boys put Nottm under constant pressure when they had the ball and managed to break down their attacks quickly, turnovers and speedy counter attacks punished Nottm with some massive runs from Henry and Noah with great support play following them up.

It's a great feeling for the coaches when a team pulls together and communicates between themselves to organise and execute our game plan on the field of play! At this age group is impressive, great leadership from Teddy and Alex.

Each player gave their all to the team today and moved personnel mountains opening up huge opportunities for themselves and more importantly as a team, great to see the two squads combining into one team, working together and encouraging each other.

Key word today was enjoyment! All smiles from all the lads, no more could we ask of each player as they all enjoyed playing rugby today. Massive respect to them all and to our hosts Nottm Corsairs who as always gave us a good competitive fixture played in the spirit of the game.

Training next week in preparation for Oakham who visit Kelham road the week after.
