Newark U10's sent two strong squads to the three way fixture in Stamford including Peterborough.
Good ground conditions considering the heavy rain in recent weeks on a bright sunny crisp morning, a slight drizzle early doors but mostly dry with gusts of very cold wind blowing across the pitches chilling the players, spectators and coaches to the bone.
Reds played three matches in total first game against Peterborough then against both Stamford teams one being more advanced in their development.
Red Squad;
Lewis, Freddie, Oscar, Elliot, Ethan, Cody, Noah, Alexander, Max, Matthew W and Jonah
All the lads showed very good communication between each other and with that were able to organise themselves constructively demonstrating good defensive structure, discipline and teamwork in a strong offensive line. In attack the excellent team work continued supporting each other with speed which alone gave the lads time on the ball to be very creative in their play. Controlling all three games.
Support play was outstanding with loose balls and turn overs being dealt with a clean and quick clear out, great ball movement resulting in many Newark tries having 4/5 players available in support should they be needed.
Outstanding rugby, yes the lads gave us a game of rugby in its finest! Man of Steel today went to Elliot.
Continued focus on the importance of taking a tackle correctly so to protect themselves as the games are picking up momentum and determination and the high tackle which Newark occasionally gave penalties away on.
Blue Squad;
Henry, B, Ted, Joe D, James, Alex, Matthew G, Harley, Reuben, Joshi and Dom
Commitment, competitive, courage, control and cooperation are all the c's shown today at Stamford. Against some of the best teams in the region Newark showed their desire to play rugby. Wanting the ball and wanting to score is not something that is easily coached, it comes from within the player. The team showed a real desire and physicality to get the ball at every opportunity and a resilience if things did not go well.
A learning point from today is to remember rugby is a game of avoidance. Moving the ball away and around the opposition rather than trying to go through the opposition each time is something to work on.
Be in no doubt though today, Newark had a very good day at the office. We should be proud of the teamwork and tenacity from everyone especially Ted our man of the match and Matthew for listening and putting into the game what we had practiced. Celebrate the success lads - very well done.
Training next week down Kelham Road in preparation for our next fixture at Kesteven the week after.
