"Working Hard For Each Other"

A very very cold and windy morning on the edge of Nottingham saw the boys enjoy a very positive couple of games of rugby in a double header at Keyworth RFC including a visiting Melton Mowbray side.

The Newark team (Joshie, Elliot, Freddie, Luke, Alex T, Oscar, Henry M, Jack, Cody and Matthew W), played 2 games and showed tremendous spirit from the outset.

The collective teams understanding of rugby has improve dramatically over the last few weeks and the boys are starting to gel as a team, working hard for each other. Whilst there is still a tendency to run down the blindside into trouble, rather than moving the ball wide into space, the boys are showing some good support play, which resulted in some excellent tries being scored in both games.

Defensively the boys tackled hard, but fairly and showed great confidence. There are still a couple who lack the confidence of the others, but Luke today stood out as one who arrived seemingly quite reserved, but grew throughout the game, getting stuck into some great tackles and eventually scoring a try. This exemplifies what we are trying to build on with the coaching and resulted in the "Man of Steel" award going to Luke.

Whatever level you are playing at there will always be areas for improvement, but we are really starting to see the practicing being applied throughout competitive games, more positives than negatives, which makes the coaches and parents extremely proud.

Well done to all and to the parents for enduring the biting winds and challenges of the 'car park / quagmire' to support your boys and the team as a whole.

Training at Kelham Road next week.
