A great improvement in the mud!

In perfect U9 conditions (mild and muddy) three Newark teams hosted two from Kesteven and a touring side from Shrewsbury.
Each team played three gruelling matches of 20 minutes with strong performances from all the Newark teams.

The Blue team started with some sublime team play again Kesteven A, it was really pleasing to see the work on passing the ball before being tackled that we have been doing in training transferring to a live game situation. The team's tackling was once again spearheaded by Tobias Smith and Toby Baldwin with the finishing speed on the wings provided by Hector Ferrer, Freddie Beals and Toby Hayle. But the tries could not have been scored had it not been for the collective team performance in getting the ball to the wings with some barnstorming charges by Teddy Tooley and Sam Hemsley. Once those runs had (finally!) been stopped, our very own Danny Care (Jake Fox) was on hand to recycle the ball via Daniel Recaldin, Jim Gleed and Jacob Taylor. To be fair to the team, we were probably still basking in the afterglow of the win as we let the second game get away from us with some poor defensive play - work for Sunday!! But in the 3rd game against Shrewsbury we came back to our best despite the fact that we loaned them Max Baldwin who was in the thick of everything, tackling his (ex)-teammates like he had never known them!

As the picture shows, it's not about the winning, it's about who gets the muddiest!
