Although holidays and a change of date chopped numbers slightly, nevertheless there was a good Golf Society turnout for our annual visit to Beeston Fields GC to contest the prestigious Fisher & Godfrey trophies, made particularly pleasant by the presence of Dan Godfrey, who came along to present the prizes.
The format for The Brian Fisher Trophy was a Pairs BB Stableford competition, and the good weather, plus a course in excellent condition, resulted in some impressive scores with Bill Russell and partner, Peter Mills, having to call upon all of Bill’s local knowledge to combat the wiles of Josh White and the attacking play of his partner, Stan Hutchinson.
Unfortunately, Stan couldn’t achieve a clean sweep (sorry!) by also collecting the nearest the pin prizes. These being won by Simon Smellie & Colin Smith.
Finally, Dan was delighted to present Simon Smellie with a most impressive print on behalf of Lahinch GC. to commemorate Simon’s feat of achieving a hole in one during his visit to Co Clare with The Golf Society last year.
As most of us were driving home Simon didn’t feel that it was appropriate to buy the customary Hole in One round of drinks after today’s presentation but has promised to do so when he returns to Lahinch shortly with the GS Ireland Tour party.
A more popular decision with some than others!.
Happy golfing,
Nick M.
