Have a listen please to the club’s oldest life member – John Harris – talk about over 70 years of playing and volunteering at Kelham Road.

John, whose playing career started at prop aged 18 just after the Second World War, talks to Bob Walker about how the club has developed in his lifetime.

He was club captain in the 1950s and remembers how players used to change and drink at the Royal Oak in Castlegate before Kelham Road was properly developed in the early 1960s.

John played a full part in that development and is pictured (on the video) alongside the late Brian Fisher and George Jeffcott – two other key figures in how club members constructed the first clubhouse.

Thank you to Bob for his work on this centenary item.

He started his journalistic career on the Newark Advertiser besides a distinguished playing career for the club.

Happy birthday, Newark RUFC
