You may have noticed the climate is changing. This has forced the club into doing a project to future proof Kelham Road from summer droughts. We've had an unused bore hole for the last 50 years, it's an observation pipe put down by British Sugar to monitor water levels around their adjacent factory.
Well, we've put the hole to good use by employing MD boreholes and drilling who have sunk a submersible pump into the pipe to 18m and provided a 10,000 litre tank (pictured above) to store water. We can remove up to 20,000 litres a day.
Adrian Hanbury of Nottingham Irrigation, a friend of David Rhodes, has designed an irrigation system which will hopefully be completed by the time you read this. This will allow watering to pitches 1 and 2 and probably eventually pitch 3.
As ever there's a very special mention for David Rhodes who has worked tirelessly throughout the spring and summer to get the pitches into the condition they are. He's sliced and spiked the soil, sprayed the weeds, fertilised and reseeded. He and Doug Lynes have cut the grass mostly twice a week this year.
I'm sure you will agree the pitches look fantastic, aided by many gallons of rainwater and hours of sunshine delivered by our, at times, every changing, no two days the same, crazy climate.
Martin Gibbs, The Tuesday team’s answer to Bill Oddie/Alan Titchmarsh all in one, has continued to tend his Conservation area between pitches 1 and 5. The bulbs in the Spring looked fantastic, it's a great area with new trees and no weeds, with bird boxes. The owl box has not yet been let, but hopefully it will be soon. Enjoy from a distance please.
So that's it I think, sorry if I missed anyone but I've run out of space. Been busy haven't we! Well done all the Tuesday boys, always ready for a cuppa and a biscuit and putting the world to rights. Tuesday morning are always busy with work and banter. Enjoy the new season at what have to be the best facilities in England for a club at our level.
