Good luck to George Bacon who is spending some of his summer cycling across Europe to Istanbul in a fund raising challenge for the Matt Hampson Trust.
George sets off in mid-June on a ride that is scheduled to take 40 days or so as the group aims to cycle some 100km a day through Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria and Turkey.
Entitled the ‘Furthest East Challenge’ – the group needs to pedal some 3730km to make the Turkey capital.
The Matt Hampson Trust was founded by the former Leicester Tigers England under-21 prop who was paralysed at a national training session.
Matt established the Foundation in 2011 to help others like him who have suffered similar catastrophic injuries through sport to receive the support they need to rebuild their lives.
George has come up through the mini and youth teams at Newark.
He explained the challenge: “I'm cycling from the Trust’s base near Market Harborough to the edge of two continents in support of the Matt Hampson Foundation, which helps people rebuild their lives after catastrophic sporting injuries.
Their motto, ‘Get Busy Living’ inspires me to push my limits and give back.”
