This year’s Hubbard Scott Cup delivered one of the most memorable days in the event’s history — a fitting tribute to Max and Ollie, and a powerful reminder of what rugby and community can achieve together.
Played on Easter Saturday, the annual charity fixture once again brought together a large number of Kings School Old Boys, many of whom came through Newark RUFC’s own mini and youth programmes. Watching many familiar faces take to the pitch added a deeply personal dimension to what was already a special occasion.
The day saw a record crowd of circa 500 people attend — friends, parents, and supporters many of whom knew both Max and Ollie well, united in celebration and remembrance. The atmosphere was everything the occasion deserved.
The Child Bereavement Centre in Newark and The Brain Tumour charities received tremendous support throughout the day, and the crowd showed no signs of wanting the day to end — many staying well into the early evening to enjoy the live music in what became a truly celebratory and communal gathering. The event raised not just funds, but spirits, and perfectly honoured the memory of two young men who touched so many lives.
Plans are already in place for next year’s event, and if this year is anything to go by, the Hubbard Scott Cup will continue to grow in scale and significance. Watch this space.
