New Appointments Strengthen Newark RUFC’s Commitment to Coaching and Community

Newark - ADMIN ONLY RUFC - WEB SITE12 Nov - 07:20

We welcome them both to their new roles . . .

We are proud to reaffirm our commitment to our members and our local community.
Our goal is simple — to ensure everyone can enjoy the values of rugby, the spirit of the club, and the opportunities it offers to grow and develop as individuals. We want to inspire the next generation of players — the next Joe Heyes and Becky Boyd — right here in Newark.

To support that vision, we’re delighted to announce two key appointments that will further enhance our coaching excellence and community engagement.

Tom Mapp – Coach Developer and Mentor

Tom Mapp joined Newark RUFC as Coach Developer and Mentor.
Initially focusing on our Mini and Youth coaches (for both boys and girls), Tom will spend the coming months connecting with our volunteer coaching teams and reviewing our current setup. A structured coach development programme will then launch in the New Year.

Many of you will already know Tom — a familiar face at the club who supported last season’s U16 squad alongside his son. An accomplished former player and Level 3 coach, Tom brings extensive experience from both Tennis and Rugby, working as an England Rugby Coach Mentor and Coach Developer being currently involved delivering CCD courses and England Rugby Coaching awards.

His appointment represents an important step in helping our coaches grow in confidence and skill, ensuring every player at Newark benefits from high-quality, consistent coaching across all age groups.

Ben Ennals – Schools Liaison Officer

We are also thrilled to confirm that Ben Ennals has taken on the role of Schools Liaison Officer.

Ben will focus on strengthening the connection between Newark RUFC and local schools, helping more young people discover rugby and creating clear pathways from school participation to club membership.

A long-standing player and passionate ambassador for Newark RUFC, Ben has been at the heart of our schools coaching programme for many years. His enthusiasm, energy, and ability to engage young players make him ideally suited to this new role.

Working closely with Richard Byron, our Schools Development Manager, Ben will help align and enhance all our schools outreach and engagement activities.

Looking Ahead

These appointments mark another exciting step in Newark RUFC’s ongoing journey to become the leading community rugby club in the Midlands.

By supporting our coaches, nurturing young talent, and deepening our roots within local schools and the wider community, we’re building a stronger future for everyone involved in the club.

Please join us in congratulating Tom and Ben on their new roles — and in supporting them as they help shape the next generation of Newark rugby players.

Director of Rugby.
