Lifelong contribution to club

Newark Rugby Club members and supporters send heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of John Beddoe.

John, one of the club’s life members, died on Sunday evening in King’s Mill Hospital after a short illness, aged 80.

Over some 60 years, John was a first team player, club secretary and treasurer before moving on to be a leading official in the RFU Midlands organisation.

In recent years, John was a familiar figure at Kelham Road and was still volunteering whenever asked until very recently this summer.

In paying tribute to John, president Tim Barker said: “Everyone involved at Kelham Road from minis to seniors will be very sad at the news.

“The club has lost one of its very best."

He always had Newark RUFC at his heart and will be long remembered for his contribution to the club.

"His good humour and love of rugby always shone bright whenever he was at the club."

The funeral is 3rd November, 1.15pm at Mansfield Crematorium,
Derby Road, Mansfield NG18 5BJ
and afterwards at Newark RFC.
