The 4th Hugh Daybell Golf Day at Newark GC. on October 2nd

Five years ago, when NRUFC rugby, cricket and golf stalwart Hugh sadly succumbed to a brain tumour, it was decided to organise a golf day in his memory. This event has now grown into the Golf Society’s best supported day and a good fund raiser for its nominated charities.

This year was no exception with a record turnout of 28 pairs competing for the Hugh Daybell Trophy. Despite some serious pre-event fears to the contrary the weather was kind on the day, and our thanks go out to NGC greens staff for their hard work getting the course in shape.

The golf was followed by a good meal and the presentation of prizes by Golf Society President (for life!) Dicky Marshall. Thanks being due to all who donated prizes, particularly John Clark of Ping once again, and to Arcade Framing for their generosity.

To conclude there was a record breaking auction conducted by Charles Hine that amassed the impressive sum of £1360. The Star Lot being a framed tabard donated by Irish Open winner, Jon Rahm that fetched £280.

A final thank you to Linda Fearn and her team of helpers in the Hospitality Hut and to everyone who supported the day in any other way, including our hosts, Newark GC.

As a result we are delighted to report that we are able to donate £1250 to The Brain Tumour Cancer Charity in memory of Hugh, and more recently, John Rimmer’s son Michael, plus £400 to All Saints Church Coddington where Hugh was a long serving Church Warden.

We look forward to your company in 2020
